Compare the odometer readings recorded at MOT tests. Our free check puts them in a timeline and flags possible backwards readings, unusual jumps or mixed units, without asking you to sign up.
MOT mileage is a series of recorded snapshots, not a measurement of every mile driven. A discrepancy can reflect a recording error, unit change, instrument replacement or tampering. Consistent readings do not prove that an odometer has never been altered.
Explore a sample reportRecord the displayed mileage and unit at the viewing. Compare them with the latest dated MOT reading, allowing for use since the test.
Ask for service invoices and any instrument-replacement evidence around the flagged dates. A large increase or decrease deserves an explanation rather than an automatic accusation.
Compare the documentary history with wear, maintenance and an independent inspection. If there are too few readings, keep the conclusion open rather than treating missing evidence as reassurance.
