How the checks work, what the data covers and what happens after you pay.
- Can I add a vehicle valuation?
- Yes. After your £4.99 full history check, add a separate valuation for £1.99 from your report. It shows the available forecourt, private-sale and trade estimates. Values are indicative and not a guaranteed sale price. The valuation is saved in your report and PDF. If a usable valuation cannot be delivered, the add-on payment is refunded.
- What does the free check include?
- Available vehicle details, recorded MOT tests and defects, expiry dates, a mileage timeline when readings are sufficient, and possible mileage-discrepancy flags. Missing evidence and stale records are labelled. No signup or card details are needed.
- What extra does the £4.99 full report add?
- Recorded finance, insurance write-offs, theft and status markers, plus available keeper, plate, V5C and technical details. The report explains individual findings and practical buying checks. It is not an inspection or financial data guarantee.
- Where does the data come from?
- The free check uses a third-party MOT history service. Paid records are supplied through a third-party vehicle history service. Coverage depends on the fields and records returned; Plateworthy does not claim identical data to every other checking service or direct official affiliation.
- Do I need an account?
- The free check requires no account. Single reports use guest checkout and are attached to your checkout email. Sign in through an email link to reopen reports on another device or to use pack credits. There is no password or recurring subscription.
- Can I share my report?
- Yes. Every report has a Share button that creates a read-only link, valid for 30 days, that you can send to a mechanic, partner or co-buyer. You can also download the report as a PDF.
- Is the report a guarantee about the car?
- No. The report reflects recorded history at the moment the data was retrieved and can't see mechanical condition. It's guidance to inform your decision; we always recommend inspecting the car in person before buying.
- Can I get a refund for a report?
- For immediate digital delivery, you expressly request supply and acknowledge that the 14-day cancellation right is lost once generation begins. If we cannot deliver a report you have paid for, we queue a full refund. This does not affect your rights for faulty or misdescribed content.
- Can I cancel a credit pack?
- You may cancel an entirely unused credit pack within 14 days by emailing admin@plateworthy.co.uk with your checkout email, order date and a clear cancellation request. Once any credit has been used, only the unused portion remains eligible where required by law. Read the terms for cancellation details.
- What is the mileage-anomaly flag?
- We compare usable dated MOT odometer readings and flag possible backwards readings, unusual jumps or mixed units. A flag needs investigation; it does not prove tampering. With too few readings, consistency remains unconfirmed.
- What does an unknown or unconfirmed result mean?
- The available records did not provide enough confirmation for that check. Unknown is not a clear result. Read the specific gap, verify through an appropriate source and resolve it before relying on the finding.
- Does Plateworthy show live tax status?
- No. Use the linked third-party tax checker for tax and SORN status. Our separate free check covers recorded MOT history and mileage.
- How do packs work?
- A pack adds three or five credits to your checkout email; buying it does not generate reports. Sign in using that email, confirm a car through a free check, then choose to spend one credit for a full report. Credits never expire, and immediate delivery is confirmed separately when a credit is used.
