Ford Fiesta MOT history & buying checks
By Plateworthy · Updated · Editorial policy
A Fiesta history check should start with the exact car, not a generic list of Fiesta faults. Different generations, engines and transmissions sit under the same model name. Use the registration to check its records, then match servicing and inspection questions to the vehicle's own specification.

Free MOT and mileage records. Finance, write-off and theft checks are available in the £4.99 full report.
Match the manual before judging the service history
The manufacturer's manual selector distinguishes model years and versions, and its maintenance tool accepts a VIN or registration. Use those tools with the seller to establish the relevant schedule. A service interval copied from another Fiesta or a different engine is not evidence that this one was maintained correctly.
Ask for dated invoices with mileage and the actual work performed. A stamp or a recent MOT is not a substitute for evidence of a particular scheduled component replacement. If the description is vague, ask the servicing garage or a manufacturer-approved retailer to clarify it before treating the work as completed.
Read the individual MOT sequence
Look at the order of tests, recorded odometer units and defect locations. A car that failed and later passed has a different sequence from a single clean pass; neither sequence alone tells you the quality or cost of repairs. For a recurring advisory, ask what changed and request supporting paperwork.
The model-wide statistics can combine several generations and usage patterns. Before comparing a Fiesta with another model, check the source period and age/fuel group. A missing or legacy denominator should make a comparison less certain, not make the car look better.
Keep identity, history and condition separate
At the viewing, match the vehicle and paperwork to the recorded identity and have the seller explain material differences. Check recall information separately and ask for evidence where completion matters. A history database cannot inspect the vehicle in front of you or establish that every campaign was completed.
A free MOT check does not cover outstanding finance, write-offs or theft. The paid report adds those recorded checks; an independent inspection addresses a different question about present condition. Resolve both documentary gaps and physical concerns before committing money.
Questions to take to the viewing
- Identify the precise model year, engine and gearbox from the car and its documents.
- Use the manufacturer's vehicle-specific schedule; ask for invoices for work that is actually due.
- Compare readable MOT mileages and follow up recurring advisories with repair evidence.
- Check recall information and independently verify any important completion claim.

Legacy aggregate · test period unverified
This older row did not retain its source period, full outcome counts or calculation evidence. Its reported pass rate is 74% across 1,440,962 test records. It is not a verified version 2 result or a reliability rating. Mileage averages and failure rankings are withheld until a documented reimport.
